My ED re-delivery has not gone smooth. My car (2006 530xi) arrived in NJ November 12th. It took about four weeks to clear customs. When it arrived at the VPC they notice and repaired a scratch on the driver's door, but they ran into problems reassembling the door on the car. After about a week of either trying or waiting on a part, they fixed the door. The car arrived friday at the dealership. The truck driver off loaded the car and the dealership could not open the door. Now the dealership is ordering parts to repair the door. I'm not sure how the dealership opened the door. Do you think this will be an on-going problem? Should I ask them to replace the car? I am trying to be patient, but I dropped the car off in Nice, Oct 17th.

That is unfortunate. Give the dealer an opportunity to fix the car - I'm sure they'll make it right.

This stuff happens all the time with typical factory/shipping of new cars.
Just because you are doing ED does not make you immune to these issues. They still happen, although infrequently.
For the most part, dealers shield new car buyers from these issues because they fix them before placing them on the lot.
It is the price/risk you pay when doing ED. You get the car at a discount, but you have to Q/A the shipping yourself. Don't blame the dealer or BMW. It is the good old crappy shipping company they keep using time and time again.

I doubt this type of repair would decrease the value of the car. I don't know of any car that has never had any warranty repairs done to it, as long as it's done by an authorized center and they stand behind their work, everything should be fine. Declaring this car a lemon because of an issue with the door seems rather extreme. It could be as simple as a latch adjustment to resolve the issue.
Chuck mentioned that many times buyers are unaware of this type of work being done to their new cars because the dealers just don't disclose anything was done during prep before delivery. This was true of my 2000 M Roadster, the paint was touched up prior to delivery to me. I only found out about it because the work wasn't done as well as it should have been. A trip back to the dealer had everything looking great like it should
