Would it be possible to get ED, but not actually pick up the car myself? We have several friends in Germany, and my sister will be in Europe this semester. Could we order ED, and just have one of them put the miles on it for us?

From the bmwusa website:
"Your new BMW is restricted to private use by tourists. Persons working in Europe on temporary or long-term assignments are not eligible for the special customs license plates issued under the European Delivery Program."
Not sure if students are considered tourists.

Her name would have to be on the Purchase Order and on the paperwork.

I think if both of you are declared as owners of the car she can pick it up. One problem is that she also will have to be physically present to sign the papers in the US so do that before she leaves.
