There are plenty of threads that talk about how long it takes from driving the car in Europe until delivery to the local US dealer, but how long from the time you order the car until it is built in Germany? Just trying to figure out total time from the moment you order until you actually have the car in the US for ED.

Depending on production slots, that could vary greatly. My car was built 2 months after I ordered it.

Basically, I called the dealer on 2/8/2005 and said I need to pick up a car in Munich by Mar 27
(To take advantage of Lufthansa/BMW 2 free tix offer) and he gave me the only date available, Mar 23. Car was built on Mar 2.

Youre saying that I can dictate my own date? If I ordered in January and told them I need to pick it up on Presidents Day weekend (since I have off), they can build it in 1 month?

If you want to pick up on President's day, I suggest you place your order now. The usual process is 8-12 weeks prior to pickup. Ordering in January may work but there are no guarantees. The earlier you get the ball rolling, the more likely, that your desired pick up will be available. Remember, the ED center in Munich also handles local deliveries and is quite busy.

| Though it is possible to order on a shorter schedule BMW will always have the last word and confirm any date you select. It is not only a production schedule issue but also if they any open slots in the ED delivery center that day. If you are not too picky and want a commonly configured car you may be able to get something already scheduled for production.
A few years back BMWNA had an interactive calendar where you could pick the order date and would give the other dates or you could input ED pick up date and it would tell when you needed to order.
