ED in Feb'06 - Good Shopping Malls in or around Munich?

Hello To All,

My wife and I are going to be in Munich in Feb '06 to pick up our car....she just asked me if there are any US type malls in or around Munich/Venice? Paris?

She is into brand name stuff like Armani, Vercace ,Gucci, L.V....etc....so I was curious myself since most of these brands are Italian/French would they cost less in Europe?

Please let me know if anyone had any good experience with shopping Malls while doing a ED....where (address)? and the name please?

Thank You.

From my time in Munich and Venice, I don't recall any US style malls.

Europe in General won't provide you with the huge malls you think of in the US. I remember only one US class mall in the UK and it was in London.

Smaller shopping malls are common and often you have large shoping areas in the town centers that may/may not be blocked off to traffic.

Venice does have a large square near the main Cathedral (St. Michaels ) that I recall having some of the stores you might be looking for.

I don't know about US-style Malls, but there is endless shopping for blocks around the central downtown Munich area called Marienplatz. Everything from "ordinary" stuff to jaw-droppingly expensive "exclusive" shops. Tons of places to see as well. Also, if you're interested, you can jump on the Ubahn at Marienplatz, get off at Friemann in about 15 minutes, and the ED Delivery Center is a 5-minute walk.

Why would anyone go to Europe to go to a U.S. type mall to begin with?

Your wife, she hasn't gotten much out of Brooklyn I suppose (this is not an attack on your wife, just a comment based on the fact that she could ask you this question).

Be careful if you start making a list of chain restaurants next.

I will try and be helpful:

You might ask at the delivery center if there are any malls in Munich. They will probably be outside the historic core of the city. Most of "downtown" Munich has tons of shopping and there is what looks like a mall (but it's just a large pedestrian-only street) close to Marienplatz. It has TONS of stores.

It's really sad but when we were in Salzburg, Heidelberg, and Venice last week I was shocked at how these cities have been converted into virtual malls. Venice is just a large collection of trendy boutiques.....oh, and some amazing historic buildings and canals thrown in for picture taking. Tourism has really changed the landscape.
