Hi all,
I have a question for those familiar with ED on Fridays and going from the delivery center to Dingolfing immediately after. Herr Hoffman has already confirmed a 2pm English tour for us. He is super efficient - sent him an email just before going to sleep, and he confirmed before I woke up!
I have scheduled my ED pickup of my 530i for Friday March 17 2006. My questions are:
1. How busy is the Delivery Center on Fridays. BMWUSA notes that Fridays and Mondays are busy.
2. We are flying in from Paris on Lufthansa (we are spending a few days in Paris prior to picking up the car - not flying directly there from the US). There are 2 flights that we can book:
Dep 6.50 / Arr 8.30 Dep 8.50 / Arr 10.30
We are staying at a CDG hotel the previous night. I don't want to really wake up at 4.50am to get the 6.50am flight, but then again, I don't want to miss the Dingolfing tour! If taking the 8.50 flight, I'm planning on asking Rolf for a pickup, so hope to be at the Delivery Center around 11.15, and out of there latest 1pm for the 1 hour drive to Dingolfing.
Is there a good amount of time in my schedule to allow for some mishaps? Appreciate any thoughts.
TIA,
Chris.

Take the earlier flight. If there are any delays (and my last 3 flights into MUC have been delayed by over an hour each time), your only chance is the early flight. Would recommend staying at an airport hotel at CDG the night before.

How about checking for a late flight from CDG to Muc the night before and spend the night in Munich instead?

If you want to do Dingolfing on the same day, I'd say you should leave the pick-up center no later than 12 pm. When I did this trip last October, there was a massive bumper to bumper traffic jam on A9 northbound all the way to A92 interchange. Then from the interchange traffic was slow to the airport exit. Only after the airport exit did traffic start to flow. At the time I was going to be late so I called them and was told that we would be OK as long as we arrived by 2:25pm because the first 25 minutes or so was for the film showing.

Dingolfing was the "BMW" highlight of both of my last 2 EDS......We got there right before the end of the film. We did call from the car to let them know we were late. I underestimated the time it would take to drive from the Marriott....as said..lots of traffic close to Munich.
We parked on the gravel lot to the right of the circular drive.....and the tours are on the right side of the entrance area.

I would not have wanted to miss the Dingolfing Tour for anything. On our flight out of Houston we spent three hours on the tarmac waiting for weather to clear. At Charles DeGaul we were delayed at least an hour. I just like to plan for contingencies like this and be sure not to miss something important. We were also held up an hour or more on the autobahn between Munich and Dingolfing. Fortunately for us it was on the way back.
