What to do in Munich for 2.5 days in Dec05?

I've been too distracted lately to realize that my trip is this weekend. Are there any suggestion on where to go/what to do for only 2 days? My flight comes in (from CA) on Sunday afternoon (12/11). I'll pick up the car on 12/12, drop off on 12/13 in Munich. I then fly home early morning on 12/14 . I wanted to take some days off to see Prague but unfortunately, it's not possible due to work and family situation. Therefore, this is only a quick get-away.
BTW. I'm staying at the Maritim Hotel in Goethestr. Has anyone been there? Thanks, Ty.

If the weather is good I'd probably try and get to the German/Austrian border and see Fussen, Garmisch or Salzburg. (I think Salzburg would be the best for a day trip) The Alps are such a scenic place and you'll be glad you took your car for a nice healthy spin. You can make it to these areas in a couple of hours. Northbound you could drive to Rothenburg....I hear they have a nice Christmas market.

If the driving weather is bad....Munich has a lot to offer in terms of art and culture, shopping, food, and BEER! Lot of Christmas activities/markets there this time of year. Maybe you could squeeze into a factory tour in Munich or nearby Dingolfing....maybe not since they are by reservation...but worth a try.

No doubt you'll get lots of suggestions here. Driving with your California all seasons in snow and ice might be problematic. Check with the Delivery Center in Munich regarding insurance issues and tires (or search this forum)

I'm picking up on the 15th...I am either going to go to Prague or Amserdam, and if weather is bad then just drop off my car and chill in Munich.

Sadly there are no more tours of the factory, I already called and they stopped doing those on Dec. 8th for I guess the holiday season.

If the weather is bad or if you don't want to drive too much, check out the Deutches Museum. The main bldg is great, there is a new bldg for the automobile collection west (?) of the Octoberfest grounds, and the airplane collection and workshops out at Schleissheim are amazing. There is a design collection (with vehicles) at the Pinotek des Modernnes. (All spelling and directions may be a bit off.)

Also, the Chrsitmas market should be open. Even though it will be cold, visit the Viktualmarkt (the food stalls) just south of your hotel.

Tell us what your interests are. Art, concerts, museums, food - be specific. Munich has a lot to offer and two days is enough to get a good taste.
