After the looong voyage on the Bellona my car emerged with some deep and some not so deep scratches. My dealer has been jerking me around and I can't tell if it's because communication isn't his strong suit, he's completely clueless, he doesn't care or if there's some kind of problem with the insurance company and/or BMWNA. From what I've read on this forum it seems to me that it's a bit of each of the first three and not the fourth but would welcome some guidance. He says he needs to get an adjuster to get an insurance estimate and that there's lots of paperwork that needs to go back and forth and he can't give me any sense of how long any of this will take. Any experiences that any one can share on process and timing? Thanks.

Get an estimate from the service dept of your dealership - then contact Gerling (see redelivery sticky for email/tel#) and email/fax the cost of fixing the damage.

The process is mostly "normal" however long it takes to get the bodywork done is about how long it takes!
There should not be much issue with the damage. Do they think you caused it? If so, that may be why they want you to do some of the footwork. Otherwise, the VPC could have seen that and fixed it. Then again, where is the damage? Under the car like someone here had... and they wanted that "scratch" fixed.
My most recent ED the car was delivered without a rear spoiler, and the delivery center said have your dealer install it. So they made a claim and in the meantime took my car to their bodyshop and had it (painted first) and installed. That took a week and I had a loaner during that time. On my first ED some English detailer blew a silver dollar size paint chip off the front spoiler and the mirrors were in primer due to being stolen and replaced in Paris, the VPC fixed that, and it took about two week extra for re-delivery.

Under the car like someone here had... and they wanted that "scratch" fixed. | The major damage (that I noticed) is a very visible set of gouges on the rear left quarter panel. I haven't looked underneath the car (I read those postings too). Turns out the trucking company (VDC to Dealer) noticed all of the damage and pointed it out to the dealer at redelivery. There was no damage in Europe or noted by VPC so I don't really know where it happened ... Could have been the trucking company who did it and is claiming it happened before they got the car since they're the only ones who noted it. There are also a bunch of other little scratches which I didn't notice and don't really care so much about but that the trucking company has also pointed out. My dealer is threatening to have them all "taken care of". Perhaps the problem is that BMW's trying to figure out whose insurance needs to take care of this - the shipping company, the trucking company, BMW NA? Since my dealer can't (or won't) speak coherently on the topic, I'm at a loss for what I can do. He keeps tellng me not to worry whchi is fine up to a point but I was hoping to get some clarity on process from festers' experinces in the mean time while I wait for clarity from him.
