If you are missing Europe- TV Fix
If you are missing Europe like I am, you may be interested in the PBS special coming up over the next few days. Rick Steves and his television crew finally celebrate Christmas in Europe. The result — a picturesque celebration in Rick Steves' European Christmas, a co-production of Back Door Productions and PBS. This colorful montage of the holiday's rich history of traditions explores the sights and sounds of celebrations in Bath, Paris, Oslo, and Burgundy as well as the timeless traditions of Nuremberg, Salzburg and Tuscany in a European snapshot of Christmas. The program is distributed through PBS Fundraising Programming. Note that it is part of a PBS fundraiser, so it may be a good idea to tivo it and then zip through the fundraiser parts as you replay. Here is a link to the schedule of airtimes around the country. http://www.ricksteves.com/tvr/pledge...hereitairs.htm

He's not a fan of places that have be overrun by tourism. Another example: While in Spain a few years ago we wanted to spend a couple of days on the Med in the south and he completely slammed Malaga. His recommendation of a nearby small town called Nerja proved to be an excellent choice. After leaving Nerja we drove through Malaga on the way to Sevilla and agreed that Malaga looked like an overcrowded mess. So I rely on Rick Steves for valuable travel tips.
