On my recent ED, I was heading into the hotel driveway in Trento at night and didn't see that I was off to the right by a couple of feet. I went straight onto a curb about 4 inches high at a speed of about 5 MPH Not sure if my mind is playing tricks on me or not, but I could swear the car was perfectly smooth at all speeds up until that point but the next day and after, I definitely had a vibration at speeds above 30 MPH or so (they went away over 120 MPH). This wasn't a drastic vibration but was certainly noticeable (and annoying! ). I know tires will wear differently as time progresses and are often smoother when new, but I'd like to understand if I could have put a flat spot on the rims or not (or perhaps just knocked it out of alignment?) Is it possible to dent the rim at that speed on a curb that height? Could this just be the level of vibration people see with the RFT's? I'd be interested in hearing other people's experiences with the 550's recently picked up. TIA |

TIA | You could have knocked the car out of alignment, especially if you have the sport suspension If you have the 18" wheels, then you certainly could have dented the rim if you hit it just the right way. In any case, the car shouldn't vibrate like that at any speed even with runflats, so definitely have the alignment and wheels checked at the dealer on redelivery.

I think you are fine. You would definitly have noticed the "dent" in your wheel. Simply look down and there it is. Consider youself lucky, and enjoy the car.

I know a couple people who suffered blowouts on the Autobahn at around 180 km/h (110 mph). (Actually, in one case, the rim apparently disintegrated first.) In both cases, the car was a total loss.

Even though it's not a horrible vibration it's definitely noticeable and I will ask for it to be checked out on redelivery. I did have Harms note at dropoff the vibration and possibility of a flat rim so it could be covered by insurance if that turns out to be the case. Not the best way to start off but I suppose it could have been much worse, so I'm thankful it wasn't!

You might wish to notify Gerling just in case.
