Can someone else pick up the car?

I used to live in Europe and have numerous friends who would be able to pick up the car in Munich for me and take it to the dropoff location, thus avoiding the need for me to fly over and do it myself.

With ED, is it possible to designate someone else to pick up the car for you, or do you have to be there in person to do it yourself?

Surely you jest - have you been reading any of the posts in the forum (including one covering this topic within the past few days) or done a search?

I'll spare you the majority of the lecture that some others will probably post, but to what avail would BMW make the program (with its accompanying savings) available, if people such as yourself could skirt the requirements?

But this will work:

1) Put my name on the contract and the title.

2) Pay for my airfare.

3) I will be glad to pick-up the car for you as co-buyer of the car (but I aint paying thou... )

Please let me know.... you can PM me with your info and we can make the arrangement that way. There is nuthing like taking a vacation for someone else especially if you are too busy. I dunno you but I would love to help you out

I did read through many, many posts and I did run a search. As is the usual problem with this type of forum, though, the information is scattered and buried across thousands of different threads and posts and it can be extremely difficult to find what you need.

The way that many forums deal with this is to put together an FAQ with all of the common questions that a newbie might have and then make it the first sticky post in the forum. Then, when the inevitable questions show up later, the new user can be politely referred to the link for the FAQ.

If a FAQ is not possible, the next best thing is generally to just refer people to the threads where that particular issue has been discussed before. Since the user obviously had no luck finding the answer on his own, that points them in the right direction with a simple, one-line "look at this link" message. No fuss. No flames.

And then there's the "let's light up the new guy" approach. That's also unfortunately rather common, but it does tend to keep people from coming back a second time.

In this case, I'm not simply too lazy to go on a fun vacation. I am physically handicapped and travelling on a long trip is very uncomfortable for me. I'm still able to walk, but doing so is exceptionally painful. That's particularly a problem in Europe where you pretty much have to walk everywhere. For "people such as myself," a 15 minute stroll for most is more like an hour and a half ordeal. Please forgive me for wondering if having a friend who lives a few minutes away pick it up for me would be a possibility.

I'm still not sure why the car couldn't be ordered for delivery to person X and then have my name put on the title when I show up with the money, but in the absence of any more detailed information I guess I'll just have to take your word for it.

You can order a car from BMW - and negotiate your best U.S. price with your dealer. Sometimes on certain models that can come close to the list price for a european delivery vehicle. The european delivery program exists as an image builder for BMW - but those who wish to avail themselves of the savings need to go to Europe. It started as a way of informing Americans about these German cars they had never heard of before and getting them to take their first jet age vacation.
