I recently received the "Passion For Performance" DVD from BMWFS. It's a pretty decent run through of their history, design philosohpy, safety advances, future exploits, etc. Basically, a well layed-out propaganda film that is enjoyable to watch.
However, in one section called "Design," both Bangle and von Hooyerdonk (sp) go through a logical explanation of their reasoning for the design cues on the new 3, 5, Z4, and X3. Now, always being one skeptical of Bangle and his crew, after watching this DVD, seeing
and hearing Bangle in his own words explaining what he is trying to do, in good detail while indicating the relevant points on the car, makes me gain a better appreciation for him. I could almost start to validate what he is doing in the design language.
Again, that whole "visceral" feeling that many had for the e39, e46, etc. and do not feel for the e90, etc. I understand. But at least analytically and perhaps maybe later on emotionally as well, I am getting to understand Bangle that much more thanks to this DVD.
I say you should give it a watch. Call up FS or your SA to see if you can get a copy if you haven't already.
And for those who have seen it, any comments?
