It looks like I am going to miss out on the Nurburgring - won't be open when I would be there. I found this info on another track in Heidelberg that you can take your car on - site is in German so difficult to work out. I'll do some more searching on the web but would appreciate any info anyone has. Link to the site is http://www.hockenheimring-shop.com/index2.html thanks in advance |

thanks in advance | Been there. If you get there real early (And nobody has the track rented) you can drive it. The day we showed up Porsche was testing cars (911s) so no drive, but you can just walk into the grandstands and watch, pretty cool. They also have a very good museum, lot's of race cars and one of the best motorcycle collections in Germany. It was cheap too if I remember correctly. There is a lovely palace in one of the towns close by, excellent gardens and worth a tour.

Where are you staying in Heidelberg? The track is probably a 30/45 minute drive and easy to find. I've been to HB twice and stayed in a lovely old "summer" house (Palace) right above the Fortress.

The Palace you mention sounds nice.

The Palace you mention sounds nice. | The hotel in HB is the ParkAtlantic...they have a website. Not exactly cheap, but a very nice place with good help and service (Think we paid E135 for a huge room, the owner has a ti). Free parking in a locked up lot across the road at the Karl Bosch Museum, a must see, they have Karl's original Maybach (You get a key for the lot if you want to come and go). In a VERY nice neighborhood. Right down the road is ample cheap parking for the Castle and you can ride the funicular down to the town. Eat at the Schotzenhause which is close by, it's an old shooting club, good food, interesting decor and the help are all member's children. First class, but affordable. For food in town, find the Hard Rock Cafe...and eat across the street at the little cafe and watch all the Americans buy T-Shirts. Karl Bosch was not the electrical guy, that was his nephew. Karl invented plastic among other things.
