Thanks ED Forum!! (ED in Mid Dec 2005)

Hi All,

I have been lurking on this forum for a while. Finally decided to become a Bimmerfest member and post my first message. We plan to do ED in Dec 2005 for 2006 330i manual with cold weather package. We will be taking delivery on Dec 19th. The ED forum has been very helpful and quite insightful. Plus reading other member experiences has helped us navigate the ED process and work fairly painlessly with the dealer thusfar.

We are still quite a ways from completing the process but I am sure future discussions and feedback from members will certainly help.

Anyone on this forum doing ED on Dec 19th, just curious.

Thanks again,
Cheers-

Congrats.

Two things to keep in mind:

1.) When are you returning the car. Make sure it's not on a holiday when Harms is closed.
2.) Your driving options may be somewhat limited, even with all weather tires. Keep this in mind when planning an itinerary. Unless you get snows, mountain passes are out of the question obviously.

It is great to see Jspira has mellowed and did not give his usual ”you are 120% likely to skid, crash and die most a horrible death during a winter ED; you are utter idiot if you do not pack four snow tires in your suitcase etc”

Seriously, be aware that a heavy snowfall will inconvenience travel plans. My wife and I are taking a set of snow chains for Dec/Jan ED esp. as we are visiting some ski resorts. Snow tires are a ridiculous option for a two week trip but maybe check out a cheap set of chains. The little extra baggage may be prudent if you venture anywhere interesting: http://www.tirechain.com/CarChains.htm

Chains are pretty much just for ensuring you are not stranded anywhere (open air parking lots, inclines after fresh falls etc) - I don't think anyone plans on any serious mileage with them fitted. Not all roads allow chains, but if the sign say 'no chains' and you are stuck in a heavy drift would you rather be stuck in the drift or drive back to safety illegally?

From experience snowy roads are 'ok' with S tires but obviously don't try to match the speed of locals that _will_ be using snows. I lived nearly two years in Zurich with six months of that using an ED E46 so am speaking from a least a little experience.

Have fun during the planning and anticipation phase. It'll be here before you know it!
