 Gerling Insurance

When I dropped off my 330i in Hamburg for shipment back to the US, E H Harms noted some minor damage on their checklist: Some paint chips...rather large actually.., and 2 scraped wheels. Some my fault, some not. I was under the impression after reading several postings on this site that Gerling Insurance/BMW NA would handle the rest and that the car would be (almost) like new when I got it here in the US. I believe that the BMW delevery center in Munich said the same thing. The Gerling insurance was supposed to be zero deductible.

I got the car yesterday, and nothing was repaired. The dealer said it was normal wear and tear that they usually do not fix, but he would try to see if he could get the wheels replaced.

Has anyone had minor damage like this fixed, and if so, what was the best route: BMW NA or Gerling? Should I have my dealer handle this or do I need to go straight to BMW NA or Gerling? Or do they not cover this?

Thanks.

Did you file a claim with Gerling?

On my 2000 ED, I had some paint chip damage that I noticed upon re-delivery and phoned Gerling Insurance in Munich and told them about the damage and they instructed me on how to proceed.

I think the big question is whether you notified the insurer, Gerling. All you mentioned in your post thusfar is that Harms (the shipper) noted the damage for their own records.

Did you? (notify the insurer, that is)

No, I didn't. BMW delivery center in Munich said to notify Harms. I was not successful in locating a person at Gerling, while I was in Europe prior to drop off, who knew what I was talking about.

Do you know if they cover things like this. If so I would like to file a claim. Do you know who to contact at Gerling?

The contact for Gerling should be in your insurance declaration form that you received at the ED Center. Most likely, they will cover it.
