 Can my son pickup?

My 19 year old son wants to go to the World Cup in Germany next June and I was thinking that I could split the savings on ED and he could have some money, air fare, for the trip and I could save a little myself. From previous posts I understand that the owner has to pick up. Has anyone tried something like this before? Ideas? I thought if necessary I could have him on the title and then transfer it when he/the car gets back to the states. Or maybe we could both be on the title? I'm looking at a 330i and have spent the last few months cruising this site and getting ideas for options. Thanks

the owner has to pick it up. If you want to save then just put his name as the owner. Otherwise use mileage.

Your son must be over (18) at time of pickup (insurance problem) and can ONLY pickup if his NAME is on the form your BMW dealer sends to BMWNA when the car is ordered. You must give dealer a copy of Passport or that least Passport # of person picking up so they can forward it to BWMNA. Thats who's name the paperwork in Germany will be in and it must match when the person arrives to pickup the car and they DO ask for your Passport at ED center to compare to paperwork. Have dealer title the car in your name (or) your sons name. That way only one of you will need to sign title to sell it one day. You must make this VERY clear to your dealers title clerk. They should know how to do it. But I would talk directly to clerk so they fully understand. The car will not be titled in America before you go to Germany. So its really not a big issue.

PS Please use a dealer that does ED everyday or you will be asking for headaches along the process.

Here is the deal From my source at BMW ED:

1) So long as both people (i.e. You and your son) are on the finacing paper, then he can pick-up the car in Munich by himself (and the ED P.O. issued in his name ONLY).

2) Book the hotel NOW!!! as they are being taken out FAST!!

Hope this helps,

beewang

Thanks for the info. I will tell my son to book now, although I think it will be more hostel than hotel. He may not see any soccer games in person, I saw one ticket site selling semifinal seats for $2,000.

I suspect that the dealer would be happy to title in your name even though he's on form for the ED delivery and pickup. If not, have him sign a letter to you. BMW won't know or care.

BTW, do you really want him driving your new car around when all the hooligans decend on germany? Or have him park it outside the hostel?

I'd tell him to take it directly to Harms and dropoff the same day.
