Picking up Oct 25 in Munich, drop off Nov 1. The dealer says I should start my personal insurance Nov 15 since once it hits US soil I'm "on my own" for insurance. I expected I wouldnt need insurance until I pick it up at the dealer.
What's the deal with this?

You start insurance the day you pick up the car at your dealer, not a moment before. Its covered under the shippers insurance up until that point.

TIA | Is it too late to get another dealer? I would seriously question the capabilities of a dealer that could provide such misinformation. Your expectation is actually spot on.

You have 30 days from the date you take US delivery to add the car to your policy. It is automatically covered for 30 days.
