 Hate LHR!!

Is it just me or the LHR sux as a world gate airport ??

This was my 3rd trip flying thru LHR and I absolute hate the stuipd long walk between the terminals, and then the BUS that hauls you over to (I think) Terminal 2 for international flight . There is no other way to describe it but S-T-U-P-I-D!!

An interesting expeince at the security check at LHR I was about to pull my laptop out of my computer bag (as you do w/ all other airports) and the security stopped me and said ".... no need to do that mate.... as we are PROFESSIONALS here.."

"really??!!" I said.

"... yeah... no need to take your computer out, take off your belt or shoes here. We are professionals here and you don't need to do none of that rubbish.." He replied w/ a sense of pride.

I gave him an old Yankee thumbs-up and proceed thru to the gates

That was the highligh, but everything else about LHR I hate

cheers,

beewang

Yeah, Heathrow is awful, went through there last month. 60 minute wait at immigration.

Very crappy and the method to the madness in terminal 2 is mind boggling, you sit and wait until 15 minutes before boarding time then you have to high tail it to the gate!!!

Same here!

I never go into LHR now, only LGW with Virgin, they're a great airline and Gatwick can be a very relaxing airport.

On arrival, take a day room at one of the two in-terminal hotels (Hilton at the South Terminal or the nicer Sofitel, formerly Meridien, at the North Terminal) if you have time, that'll help you get over the flight. Or else spend your first night there to really fully recover from jet lag.

On your return journey, spend the night before your flight back to the USA in one of those hotels and you'll enjoy the experience so much you'll do it every time.

Central London is only 30 minutes away on the non-stop Gatwick Express if you want to go into the city.

we just barely made it from terminal 1 to 3 at lhr. yes, they do kinda sux but i don't mind a connecting flight worth over $200 savings.

I've started taking the AA flight from JFK to LHR that leaves around 23:55 and gets into LHR at 11 the next day. I find that the flight time coincides with my natural sleep time, so (unlike most flights) I actually sleep. And AA's flagship suites are quite comfortable so that helps a lot. This works if I am staying in London and not connecting. Otherwise, I try for direct flights.
