 Post purchase experience?

I bought an X3 last February via ED. One of the most thrilling ways to leak 40k ends (seriously), and I'm quite thrilled with the car.

However, in every other new car I've purchased (including cheap Hondas), I've received borderline un-ending questionnaires about how my purchase experience went, what I liked, what I didn't, why did I pick what I did, why that color, what shoe size I wear, etc, etc, etc.

With this BMW purchase, I've received absolutely nothing from the BMW dynasty. Nothing from the dealers, nothing from corporate, no phone calls, no scantron paperwork, not even a "thanks". Conversely, my friend bought a 3 series recently, and received a bottle of wine from her dealership with her purchase date printed on it as a "thank you!".

Meanwhile, at almost every BMW dealership I've been to, they proudly display their "we won't settle for anything less than a 5 out of 5 customer rating!" credo. Perhaps they wait to get a 5, then stop asking? Also, the latest edition of BMW Magazine had a little expose on the woman whose job it is to assure dealers have proper after-sales relationships.

Except for the radio silence after the money transferred, my dealer was ok, and the ED experience and people were absolutely great. I like the car, too. But after spending big bucks on a luxury-class auto, why not even a 37 cent thank-you note? Did I need to buy a 7 series for this? I'm surprised.

So is this normal? What did you experience after the sale was done?

I have received at least three letters from my dealer/sales advisor and two from BMWNA thanking me for purchasing my car from them and offering any help I may need on any issues. My dealership entered me in a raffle in December 2005 ($100 a ticket) for a 2006 325i for buying a new car last year (I didn't win Not their fault). A 3 and 6 month courtesy call from my sales advisor to see how things are going with my new SAV. BMWNA sent me a questionaire asking about special intrests like recreation, hobbies, other vehicles I own, and considerations that are important to me when purchasing a vehicle. I also recieved a kit with my BMW Roadside Assistance and Owners' Circle cards and a DVD entitled "Passion for Performance: An insiders guide to your BMW" from BMWNA.

I think my dealer and BMW are doing a good job at keeping in touch with their customers.

My dealer (and its MINI sister) sent out a nice plant and card right afer delivery. Also received the corporate kits, and various cards/emails making sure everything is okay. Surprisingly, I have not recieved the plethora of independent surveys like JD Powers that I have gotten on other previous cars. I am guessing that the manufacturer funds these third party reports to see how they're doing.

Our sales guy gave us a basket with cheese/crackers, cookies etc the day we picked up our car. The only thing I'd received since was a dvd of all the BMW short films, though I don't think that even came from the dealership. I do however still regularly receive the BMW Magazine with it's 14 pages of BMW info and 47 pages of watch ads.

The most useful thing I'd ever received from buying a car was after I bought my '99 Tahoe. Chevy (or the dealership?) sent a nice cordura zipper bag with umbrella, maglight, insulated travel mug and first aid kit.
