ED: some issues (had a tech at the Munich factory look at it :)

Just picked up my car yesterday (Monaco Blue 330i). The pickup was a great experience and I had a lot of fun getting to know the car in the last two days. I love the idrive and comfort access. However, a couple of issues have come up:

1. The steering sometimes seems to pull the car quite hard in one direction. The feeling is like when your wheels get stuck in the tram rails in the street and jolts the wheel. It happens in both directions (left and right) and happens only for short moments of time. I think it happens mostly under breaking but I will confirm this tomorrow. Its quite strange. We also have an E46 325i and one of the things i loved about it is the precise and confident steering (i can let my hands off the wheel and it will run straight even under braking). Besides being stiffer, the steering on this e90 seems to be less precise and controlled. Anybody recognize this? Could this be a break-in issue?

2. There is a production fault with the inside panel on the rear door, resulting in a gap between the window and the door. I actually had a factory tour and asked one of the technicians there to look at it (!), they did (3 different people looked at it, were very apologetic and trying very hard to help me) but said I will have to get it fixed at a dealer. I might have this done somewhere or might just note it for the VPC/US dealer, and it should be too big of an issue

3. This might be normal but I noticed that when I hold the stick (manual) that it (slightly) vibrates. I did not notice this during the test drive (our 325i is a step). Is this normal?

Issue #1 bothers me the most by far. Any input would be appreciated.

Perhaps a silly question: could #1 be the car tram-lining in truck-produced wheel ruts (Spurinnen)? In which case the problem may disappear after you change continents.

I just did some more research and read about the tramlining. This does seem to describe some of the issues I am having. As far as I can tell it even happens on seemingly even roads. There also seem to be some suggestion that tire pressure can having something to do with it. Its been quite cold in Austia (around freezing temperature), given that these are summer tires, could that perhaps be a contributing factor?

Yes.

Yes.
I have never know a manual transmission car's gearshift to NOT vibrate.

It's not your car's fault (tramlining) it's the road. And your tires. The lower the profile the worse it's going to get. Raising the air pressure to as high as you can get without suffering ride comfort is about all you can do (Other than petitioning the government to get overloaded transport trucks off the Interstates and pay up for the damage they do to highways not built to withstand the weight of semis allowed in the US today)
