 Deutsche Alpenstrasse question

I'm planning my drive through the Bavarian Alps and wondering if anybody knows as to how long this will take without stopping and at a normal traffic speed:

From Munich, south on A95 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, continue west on route 23 and 187 (crossing into Austria), route 179 towards Reutte, then Fussen. Continue west on route 310 to Nesselwang, Immenstadt, and to Lindau.

Also is Austrian Vignette required on countryside roads? I'll be on Austrian road for about 45 KM between Griesen and Fussen.

Thanks very much in advance!

P.S. One more week to departure day

Vignettes are only required on the Autobahn. For your drive, try the Routenplaner at www.yahoo.de; I find it very helpful.

This will take from Munich to Lindau aprox. 5 hours.

You can take a scenic "shortcut". After the end of the autobahn leave B 2 in Oberau and go via B 23 and Ettaler Sattel to Ettal, then to Linderhof (one of Ludwig II castles) and via Ammersattel and Plansee to Reutte.

Zauberhias, thanks for the tip. I see the shortcut on my Michelin map. But on my map, the stretch between Ammer-Sattel and Plansee was marked as closed due to snow between November to April.

Do you know if that'll be the case? I will go through there next Saturday, October 29.

www.viamichelin.com shows it too...

They close the road in winter only when big winter storms occur and the avalanche risk is high. I was doing it in december and january.

The road will be open Oct. 29th, unless there will be no big snowstorm (risk < 5 %).
