 Puzzled by Redelivery Process

I live in California and my car is at the dealership for pickup tomorrow. This is my second ED, and I'm puzzled by some changes in redelivery process.

Last time, I paid for all fees at the dealership, and got the car ready to use. This time, I'm being told that I need to get the car looked at by CHP, and then take it to the DMV for registeration myself. I'm guessing the DMV will collect taxes as well. Has anyone here run into this sort of redelivery?

The only time that should happen is if the dealer you are picking up from is not the selling dealer. Is this a courtesy delivery? If not, tell the dealer to do their job. They are the ones who are supposed to register and process all the paperwork needed for the DMV. Who's the dealer?

Yeah that is NOT right unless this is not the dealer you purchased the car from... did your final sale agreemnet include the applicable taxes, if so you should not need to pay again, and check if you already paid liscencing and registration fees. If it is from out of state and a courtesy delivery they are correct, since you did not pay for the taxes etc.

This is completely wrong. Whoever told you this at the dealer is all wet.

I have an ED with redelivery later scheduled for CA. The car will be ready for me drive off.

The ED I did in 03 resulted in me going to DMV and getting the car registered and paid the sales tax at that time. DMV required me to get a smog check. Crazy but you can not win with those people. The ED I did in 04 resulted in the dealer doing the registration and sales tax filing. I paid the dealer for that when I picked up the car. I think they charged me $45.00 for that. Well worth it, if you have ever spent hours in the DMV lines.

I did both ED with same dealer in So. Calif. Hope this helps. Sounds like your dealer has not done many EDs.

Wow..that's weird. On the other hand, My 2001 530i was courtesy delivery from Ohio to Pacific BMW in Glendale and Pacific BMW actually did all the DMV paperwork.
