Some issues at redelivery - how to handle?

When my car finally showed up at the dealership I was out of the country so it waited there for about a week. I picked it up yesterday and I have a few concerns:

1. There are a few small but deep scratches on a bumper (1-2 mm) and 2 large on the wheel (1 cm). I contacted BMWNA which said they will contact the dealer to file an insurance claim. Are there any guidelines for the size of scratches that can be claimed to be fixed under insurance?

2. On the rear door there is a gray mark (line of about 1.5 cm). Somebody tried to remove it because there are a few horizontal scratches in the clear coat (visible only at direct sunlight). The gray mark is still there and I was unable to remove it even with alcohol. Should I complain about it?

3. Steering wheel, stick and the key fob had strange white residue, that looked like paint or dried toothpaste. It cleans with water easily but nevertheless a little surprising. I haven't finished cleaning the steering wheel where this white residue is quite hard to remove from the gaps between plastic elements.

4. Onboard computer settings got reset

5. The car had 8 more miles on the odometer than when I dropped it off. Probably not the worst case but after I drove about 2 miles I switched the onboard computer to show the mpg and it was at 7! Now, after about 15 more miles it climbed only to 10.6 mpg. Does it mean that someone had some very rough drive with my car after resetting the onboard computer or it is usual that mpg climbs so slowly from a low value after the reset? It had 26.7 mpg and 1600+ miles when I dropped it off.

6. When should I contact the dealer to do the first free car setting? Do dealers already have the upgraded software that can handle all E90 settings?

7. In overall, VPC didn't do a good job. The car was quite dirty in a few areas...

8. In the trunk there is a cover with a handle. Should there be anything inside of that hidden compartment (tools?) or it should be empty?

Thank you all in advance

1. Call/Email Gerling Insurance . It should be on the insurance declaration form that you received in Munich.

2. See #1

3. At least they were hygienic!

4. Probably the battery got drained or disconnected while in transit.

5. 8 miles is nothing. As for the MPG, chit happens with ED.

6. Check the 3 series forum here or at e90post

7. VPC never cleans the ED car. Its the dealer that is supposed to clean it.

8. No idea.

Dunno about the others but for 4&5, I suspect that the VPC flashed the car's computer to update the software. This usually resets the OBC. Then they probably kept the car running for a while to get it to operating temp and to complete the remaining VPC checks. While the car is idling you get 0mpg so if it idles for a while, it will kill the average on the OBC.

8 miles does seem a little suprising to me. Maybe the VPC had a little troubleshooting to do but I'd suspect the dealer was responsible for most of it - especially if they knew you wouldn't be in for a week to pick it up. That may also explain why the car wasn't squeaky clean.

Anything other than regular wear and tear during ED should be reported and fixed. DON'T accept touch-ups under any circumstance. The dealer has to file the claim with BMW, which is handled by a Marsh person. Gerling is not responsible for the transportation demage afaik. Oh, and I wouldn't worry about OBC or the mileage.

A'propos 8: today I reset the mpg and drove another 2 miles. It easily reached 20 mpg.

I am really concerned whether somebody had too much fun with my car after drop-off or it indeed was on idle for a very long time. It took 17 miles of drive to increase the mpg from 7 to 10 after redelivery.
