Day trip to Rome from Florence

Anybody done a day trip to Rome? We have an extra day in Florence and am thinking of touring the Vatican for the day. Any parking recommendations or is taking a train from Florence(early morning, late return) a better choice?

I havne't done this, but something tells me the train is a better idea. Then you don't have to find - and worry about - parking.

I have gone both by train and car.
If you find a fast train at the right time, it is certainly better: large part of the center of Rome is closed to private cars during the day (and in any event you wouldn't want to go there.. parking etc.); The freeway from Florence, particularly between Firenze Nord -Certosa- Firenze Sud, is always a mess. If you want more mobilyity in Rome, rent a Vespa; once you learned how not to be killed, it works great!.
If you go by train make sure to get one with as few stops as possible and reserve a seat in advance. Don't go to the station without a ticket at the last moment.

Get the train, if you can. Although it's not as bad as Paris, but still a metropole with heavy traffic.

Train for sure, we did the daytrip ourselves and had a great time.

Have fun, the Vatican was/is incredible.

I just got back and Made the trip in my car from Florence to ROMA. I did it on a saturday and it took about 2 hours going about 90 MPH. No issues. Parking can be a big big issue. I was able to park at my hotel (got Lucky) and left it there till monday mournig. We then left for Venice. Cool trip let me know if I can help.
