just curious to know how do you take the car from germany to denmark first. All indications are one has to use a boat to ferry the car over to denmark. If anyone has been to denmark, sweden, norway etc on ED, please update.

Haven't been on it, but the Oresund Bridge (isn't the Discovery Channel great ) now links Copenhagen to Malmo. Supposedly takes 10 minutes to cross. There's probably a toll but I don't know what it is.

Huh? I drove all the way to the very northern tip of Denmark with my first M3. Staying in Alborg. No ferries necessary. Head towards Bremerhaven and Hamburg, then keep heading north. My car was broken in by the time I got back to Germany. (4500 miles that trip)

Perhaps you are confusing Denmark with "Copenhagen" but even for the latter, you do not need to take a ferry, though it may look like it on first glance. Even the Öresund Bridge from Malmo Sweden has been open since mid 2000. From Bremerhaven, (E45) to Kolding then (E20) to Odense and Copenhagen.

We did a Volvo ED last summer. Once you are in Denmark you can take the Oresund bridge to Sweden (toll=SEK285, about $40 Visa, MC and Amex accepted) or there is also a ferry at Helsingor/Helsinborg which takes about 20? minutes. I think the ferry cost was comparable to the bridge toll. Which crossing you take depends on where you want to go. But if your idea of fun is driving fast, then you need not check out Scandinavia. Generally, Norway's roads are 2 lanes and speed limit was 70 or 80 kph I think. Sweden's roads were better and but the max speed limit was 100 or 110kph. Gas prices then were $6 to $6.50/gal, even in Norway with all their North Sea oil.

But if "fun" tends more toward twisty back roads, there's some really good ones in Southern Norway approaching the Swedish border. I was hard pressed doing 80 km/h on some of them because of the sight distances -- which you should respect because of the native fauna that are considerably taller than the car.
