  Greetings from Rothenburg!

 Greetings from Rothenburg!

Just a quick post - I'll write more a post pics when I return. We flew into Munich on Thursday and were met by Rolf at the airport. Rolf was great - he was on time, took back roads to avoid construction delays on the way to the delivery center and sat with us in the BMW cafe to give us directions and help us plan out our route. My car is awesome. I love the Comfort Access, but I need to get used to it - everytime I get to the car, I reach in my pocket for the key. Our delivery person (I can't recall his name) was only okay. He spent no time showing me how to use any of the features of the car. We had to figure out iDrive and nav, but I don' really understand all of the complaints in the press, both my wife and I have had no problem with it. Thanks to Bee for the Nav disk. I can't imagine finding my way around without it.

I have to say that my Alpine White 330 really stands out here in Germany. For some reason no one here drives a white car. I've asked several Germans why there are no white cars and have been given varying answers. A group of young BMW interns on the factory tour told me that white cars are for old people. Another person told me that white cars are not safe because they can't be seen in snow and fog - I don't buy that given that silver is just as light and every other car here is silver (according to the factory tour guide, about 35% of current 3 series production in the Munich plant is silver).

We spent Thursday in Munich visiting the Oktoberfest - it was way to chaotic and smoky for me. Walking into the beer tents probably took a year or two off my life. Friday we checked out the temporary BMW Museum (kind of a waste) and did a tour of the Munich factory. The tour was great.

We then took the Autobahn to Rothenburg O.D.T. The Autobahn was little dissapointing since there was a 120kph speed limit most of the way and lots of traffic and construction. I was able on several occasions to open it up (keeping to the 4500 rpm break in) and hit 115 mph, but even at that speed I was being pased by minivans and plumbing trucks!

We're off to a rest before (jet lag is still killing me) an early dinner and then the Nightwatchman's tour.

....
Excellent!!

I definitely agree w/ the White car/Old People comment

Forgot to mention that Phillip Morris/RJ Reynolds is alive and well in the E.U.

And if you want to drive fast... get off the Romantic Road tomorrow (after Wuzburg) and head either North to Berlin, or better yet ... West to Frankfurt. on Sunday (TRUCKS NOT ALLOWED on AUTOBAHN except for for life essential food )

enjoy your trip,

beewang

Nice to hear from you from Rothenburg. Looking forward to pictures.

I think that 1-2 % of cars in Germany are white. It's been called Kühlschrank-Metallic. That and red are very hard colors to resell.

Also, since I am going to be staying there Nov 5, 6 (Restaurant Kloster-Stueble) ; interested in knowing how you managed to get internet access? I am struggling between deciding taking my laptop ( which I really do not want to do) or hoping to find "internet cafe's??"
