delay from production to pickup in Germany

I am meeting with my dealer on Wednesday night to finally place my order for a 650 convertible. In backing into my deleivery date he told me something that didn't completely make sense and I don't remember for 04 when I bought my 330 via Euro program.

He said that once the car is finished being built it has to sit in Germany for a mimimum of 4 weeks before my pick-up date. So if the car is completed on November 1 the earliest day I can pick it up is November 28. What would be the reason for this?

That is not necessarily the case. The rule is that your car should be built the month preceding your pickup, and it should be ordered the month preceding the build month, but this rule can be bent (do to some strange circumstances, my car was produced and completed June 15th 2005 for my June 27th pickup, so it definitely didn't sit in their warehouse for 4 weeks). They also need enough time to process the temporary registration etc. There also may be an allocation issue for your dealer, as 650's come out of dealer allocation.

I for one would like to know if what the 4 weeks of sit time actually means from the dealer. It's fun to hear the stories they make up.

Seriously, Me is right in terms of the order of the order, but this still depends on the dealer's having a manufacturing slot available as well as in your case dealer allocation.

I found out yesterday that my 650IC is to be completed on October 7. I have a call into my dealer to find out if the previously scheduled earliest pickup date of Nov 4 is still on.

Seems peculiar that it would take a month.

BMWNA automated response says Oct 7 completion of my 650IC. But delivery no sooner than Nov 4 (unless "there is an emergency"). All seems a bit fluid to me.

Do not understand the 4 week delay .. also alluded to in other posts.

Also, dealer says cannot add Hi Def radio at this point even though it was announced recently for October production.
