Some ED Questions
First of all, I have a Bimmerfest PDF with the ED prices from March 2005 for the E90. Is there something more current which reflects the price increases after September?
Secondly, is ED purely a purchase program or is it available for leases too? Does the finance arm of BMW USA offer leases based on ED invoice prices?
Thirdly, I have a European trip scheduled for next July. Probably not the best time of the year for an ED? What would be better? The winter months would be less crowded but I would think if you do a lot of driving over there, you run into weather, especially if you go up into Switzerland, northern Italy, etc.
Or alternatively, how quickly can you pick up and then immediately drop off if you don't want to do any driving over there? While I've seen photos of some beautiful roads, I wonder if the higher gas prices and parking hassles in the big cities are worth it.

The 330 is up $300 and the 325 is up $500-600.

Yes you can lease through BMW Financial. The advantage on leasing is the residual value is calculated on the FULL US MSRP sticker price...giving you a higher resid. and therefore a lower payment. Leases are always calculated on the actual purchase price whether you do ED or not. Many people get discounts off of the ED price (like $1000 over ED wholesale or "invoice"...) There is a small money factor addition for ED leases (.0003) but you get the second payment for free. These programs may change from time to time so keep your eyes on the forums.
July will be busy, hot, humid, and Europe will be crowded....but you can still have a great time. If you want to see Switzerland and the Alps/etc I think winter would be a hassle.
You can drive the car about 5 miles from the delivery center to the drop-off agent. That's the most you HAVE to drive. But you really should take it out on the autobahn...even if you go to Garmisch or Fussen for a quick trip....trust me it's worth it. Many people leave the car at their Hotel and just use subways when they're being tourists. Munich is not a parking friendly place...especially in the city center. You will enjoy yourself much more in the big cities by walking or using public transport.

So you ge the best deal on a lease b/c of the US residual and cheaper ED price. 3) July would be peak tourist season, but August is worse. I personally would not want to drive there in winter. The mountains are great and the cities are not too bad, just need a hotel with a parking lot and take mass transit while in the city. best of luck!

Wasn't really thinking of going to Munich, more like Berlin and then Italy, France and Spain.
Autobahn is appealing but you're not suppose to really open up until after the break-in period right? I remember there used to be package tours of Germany which included rentals of "super cars" for the Autobahn. Rather do that than put wear and tear on the new car over there.
Also hotels kind of kill you on parking but I guess I could drive it some and then drop it off. I would most likely be using miles to take flights between destinations. Or using Ryanair, easyJet so there's no need to drive long distances.
Oh BTW, do people post prices paid for their ED transactions here?
I see a lot of posts about what people are getting and when they're going over there but nothing about what kind of deals they got. I also see the list of dealers who are ED-friendly but some specific info. on the transactions they got from specific dealers would be nice.
Kind of like the "Prices Paid" forums on Edmunds, which is where I got the Bimmerfest ED price list.

Look around this side and forget edmunds all the answers are here. Good luck! And you can figure out the prices if you read enough posts. As for driving and parking, you are saving the money to drive the car over there, so do not worry about the parking etc. or negotiate a good deal at the dealer and safe yourself the trip because it will even out in the end if you intend to enjoy the car there and see some sights. You could do the trip and car seperate and save more money than doing them together in some cases. I did it because I wanted to experience driving my car in the Alps and on the A-Bahn. It was priceless! In the end I ended up spending more money than the car alone would have cost at home. And I got great hotels through priceline at great rates. Cost of gas, etc. all adds up; though totally worth it and I will be doing it again in 2 years!
