Yes, some of the replies are amusing too. If the dealer had not sent in the paperwork, she would never have received any form of confirmation for her trip. While some do get a bit too paranoid and call BMW NA and check the Owner's Circle on a twice-daily basis, I can't imagine just showing up having never inquired about a confirmation. A better reason for being wary would be if this were happening to people who had received a confirmation letter, had paid on time, and had followed up with their dealer prior to departure. Has anyone heard of that happening from time to time?
