Everyone seems to be making a bee line out of Germany...
Never having been to Germany, it appears from what I'm reading here that Germany doesn't have much to offer when it comes to sightseeing. All the action seems to be happening outside of the country in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, etc. I'm heading out on a 10/28 flight from JFK (got my confirmation number today after 2 weeks) to pick up my 750Li and staying for 5 days. Anyone else leaving that date from NYC? For those of you that know the geography well, I'd appreciate a travel plan for my stay. Also, how do you go about getting a european driver's license. Thanks | Au contraise, there is quite a lot to do and see, depending on one's interests. Not really sure on what basis you make this statement as Munich alone is worth a full week's visit, then Berlin, another week, not to mention Hamburg and Cologne, etc. I would suggest you do a search, as this has been covered greatly.

Each country's standards varies within the EU but it makes any U.S. requirements look like they are good for a go cart.

You can drive with your US license in Germany, or you can spend $10, a couple of photos and 10 minutes and get an international license from AAA.

The procedure depends on what state issued your license and the reciprocity arrangements they have with your target country. It could be as easy as exchanging your license for another after paying a fee or as complicated and expensive as going through driving school and taking the driving tests. I believe, in most (or all?) places you have to be a resident to get a local driving license.

But in fact, I think that Germany has much to offer. Not only are the cities worth exploring, as Jspira pointed out, but the the countryside, the "romantic road", etc. are great for exploring, especially in your new wheels.
I am heading out to Italy since we have driven a bit through Germany (albeit not extensively). I was in Italy many, many years ago, but my better half has never been there. I thought that this was the time to go to Italy, and maybe for my next ED I will explore more of Germany.
Truthfully, where ever you go, what ever you do, you'll probably enjoy yourself. Have a blast!
