I'm probably going to want to arrange ED for a 325i - but won't want to pickup until early Nov. when my wife can have time off from work and can go with me. Is it premature to start talking to dealers?

Most dealers suggest a 90 day window to get the date you request from the factory. I ordered my 330Ci in February for an April 25 delivery with no problem, so you should probably order your car in August. If you don't already know, do the leg work and homework now to get all the information at different dealers, if you have a choice. I went to 4 different dealers in my area looking at colors and options. I was considering the Sonora Metallic exterior color, and only 1 dealer had a car that color. I didn't want to order that color until I saw it and liked it. I also wanted to see a navigation system and none of the dealers had a car with it. I ordered the nav system without ever seeing one. Some dealers are better than others, especially on Euro Delivery. I was fortunate to choose a good dealer who did everything right. Good luck.

Could we get an update on this topic?
Here's my situation: I have been planning to do ED for 3 years (yes that's a long time, but the trip concides with a special event) and I absolutely must have the car on a specific date in February 2006.
Should I start negotiating 90 days in advance? What if it takes 2-3 weeks to finalize a deal? Do not want to be forced to cut a bad deal due to ED deadlines. On the other hand, I figure that most dealers won't be interested in negotiating a deal > 90 days in advance.
Any advice - including how far in advance you signed your ED deal - would be appreciated. Thanks.

I also let him know that I will be doing a ED on the E90 cic in 14 months. My point is, you can start now. However, some salesguy don't last that long. Also, these guys lives by commision so a sales 8 mos from now is certainly not that enticing then a sales closed today. Deal with the GSM (General Sales Manager) if you can (I do!!) . The GSM tend to be carrer guys and have been around the blocks for years.

With my sales agreement (for a 325i) I requested a date about 12 weeks ahead - this was to coincide with time my wife had off from work. My CA said that should be sufficient time for BMW, although BMW would have to come back to him to advise that the date was OK - which they did.
