Hi, Looking for all your opinions for my friend (I recommended him 530i but he wants to hear several opinions as well) decision on his next car
335i $49750 (MSRP, they are selling $1k above dealer invoice) sports package premium package automatic with paddles comfort access shades iPod/USB adapter heated front seats navigation with idrive
530i $53170 (MSRP, and they are bargaining out of these old 07 models) premium package automatic navigation
With that 530i in stock and priced very close to that 335i he configured, 530i may be a good choice, but we want to hear more opinions from you all...
So, that 335i or 530i?
Thanks guys

As everyone will tell you, it's what he wants and needs.
The 5 is a more comfortable sedan, a bit softer and relaxed. More room as well.
The 3 is more athletic and sporty. Not to say the 5 isn't sporty (because all BMWs are), but you pay a price for the small feeling. Keep in mind the 3 is a compact sedan, and the rear seat, while improved, won't really allow tall people to be comfortable for longer journeys.

I agree with the above post. The 335i is a very sporty and tight car. The 530i is very nice as well, but more relaxed and softer. If your friend doesn't really need the rear seat space, then I would opt for the 335i. Being able to buy a car configured the way you want it is the way to go. Plus, the 335i has lot more power and kick. He wouldn't be disappointed by it.

thanks guys, yes indeed he will be driving it for himself so i guess 335i maybe the way to go, but how about the value? some people say that rather than spending $50k on a 3-series one might spend extra $3k for a more-expensive look and higher class of 5-series, which then introduced this dilemma of making the decision

I've heard that basically, if you start with a C-class, you really want an E-class. And If you have an E-class, you really want a S-class.
There's no "upgrading" from a 3 to a 5 or to a 7. They're different animals. There's some who might argue that a 5 is more prestigious than a 3-series (because there are so many of the 3s around.......BMW sells 10k of them each month in the US), but really, they're different cars.

If no family (or dedicated sports car) definitely 3er... I have a dedicated sports car (Cayman) so I went from a 3er to a 5er as the everyday car. Beyond some nice sound isolation, image change and minor advantage in really long drives, from now on I'll take the 3er every time.
