 ED License Plates

Hi Bimmerfesters...I am seeking for a sound way to keep my temporary ED license plates in the car. So I wondered if anyone has tried to get personalized license plates in California with the same alphanumeric characters of the German ones. The car looks so much "phat" with them .My thoughts are to put the Cali one on top of the one at the back and keep the German on the front. Is this a preposterous idea? Has anyone been stopped by a cop? Forgive me, but these plates are a significant memento of my 3 weeks in Europe and I would like my car to wear them proudly

If you want to put a euro style plate on the front, I would recommend getting a Euro plate holder and putting it on the front bumper. Picking up an unpainted one in Europe is the cheapest option, but if you didnt, you can buy a painted one from bimmian.com (its pricey though). But the caveat is that the ED plates you get on the car are actually are about one inch short on width when mounted on the Euro plate holder. So I called bimmian, and they can actually make a replica plate for you on a white background with the right side highlighted in red. You can tell them your plate number and the dates in the red, and they can stamp up a replica with your original numbers.

This fits perfectly on the euro style holder, and bimmian sends you a black mounting bracket. The only thing missing is the red sticker.....they cant duplicate those. But if you really want to keep your original ED plates, this is a decent option...

I am having my original plates framed....

PS.....If you want pics, let me know...I will upload them later today

Seems like a good idea, but I doubt that it's legal. Not saying you'll get stopped, but a cop who wants to find something wrong surely could use this as a basis. Maybe just a fix it, but I doubt you could paint your own license plate and slap it on (other than maybe temporarily), so the same presumably applies here.

I am ordering custom plates with my euro plate numbers. I havn't decided if I will keep the euro plate on the front yet. I live about a block from the police station so it seems more risky, since I never drive home without passing a cop or two.

but either way I think it makes a great custom plate. ED'rs will get it right away and most other folks won't even notice.
