Travelling Thankgiving Week!!!! Looking for Suggestions

First off - a GREAT BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE HERE for all the information!!!!!!!!!!!

Without this forum, I never would have had the information I needed to actually make this thing a reality. This seems like a great community which I am excited to become a part of!!

Second - a plug for one of the Board Sponsors - Carbone BMW - Utica, NY

Per the recommendation of some posts here, I contacted Carbone after a particularly bad experience at my local dealer, BMW of North Haven CT.

Ted is no longer there, but I worked with Brian Secord. With no hassles, he gave me a VERY GOOD deal with no hidden BS fees. Very easy going and a pleasure to deal with. If you are anywhere in the area I recommend calling him at 315-797-1520.

Well I got my production number today!!!!!! Called BMWNA and verified everything - order is as it should be.

I have requested a Nov 21 delivery date, but still haven't gotten that confirmed. Dealer says it shouldn't be a problem as I am 3 months out and it's a slow time of year, but I need to ticket my frequent flyer tickets and am reluctant to do so without a confirmation. Any idea how long it should take?? Car was ordered on 8/24 and got production number today.

I am planning on arriving in Munich Sunday 11/20 with my wife and kids (9 and 7). We will be flying back to the US on Monday 11/28. I can return from any city as I have FF tickets.

Looking for some suggested itineraries with some good driving and stuff to do with the kids as well. Would love to drive through the Alps, but I'm a little worried about snow in late November.

Thanks again!!!!!!

Brian

Delon BMW, Salem, OR

Your plug is greatly appreciated

Brian - I was in the same boat as you, having an order number but no confirmation on my ED date, and wanting to book flight with ff miles. I booked my flight (I think they gave me 7 days to hold) without a definite ED date confirmation from BMW, knowing that I'd have to fork out $100 to correct and reissue another airline ticket. Fortunately all worked fine. I think, given how far in advance you're starting, you should get your requested date, as long as it's not a German holiday or something.

Regarding itinerary suggestions, why not head south during that time of year? (e.g. French and Italian riviera, Rome, Amalfi coast, etc.) You'll benefit from a more temperate climate and longer daylight hours. Maybe someone else can speak to the road condition of the major Swiss and Austrian thoroghfares, as you'll most likely have to travel through the Alps to get to the warmer climates.

Just my two cents...

Good on you - lucky guy
Man! I ordered my car a month ago and haven't received my Production number for an ED on 11/18
I have asked similiar question regarding traveling at that time of year and it doesn't seem to be too much of an issue. In any case we are heading mainly to the Riviera/South of France area - where it may be marginally warmer. But I still expect to do some nice driving through the alps on the way down and then on my way to Lucerne.

HAve fun.

You have AWD! Why are you worried about snow??

Well actually, after I posted, I kinda realized the same thing about the ice and snow and the x-Drive!!! The 530 is going to spend most of its time after it arrives home going from CT to VT, especially in the winter, so I'm no stranger to winter driving.

Maybe I should have asked if there is any good skiing in the Alps in late November?????????

Actually, I am hoping to get in some spirited driving in during our trip, preferably on some nice twisties which are NOT covered in snow and ice! Also looking forward to driving on the Autobahn in a decent car!! Been on two previous driving trips in Germany, both times in crappy rental cars with like 1.4 l. engines.

As i said before, I'm travelling with my wife and 7 & 9 year olds. Anyone whos done this with kids and has any wisdom to share - I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks...Brian
