Can anyone provide comments on this itinerary? Also, has anyone done a pickup from Harms when the factory was closed? Am arriving late the day before a 2-day holiday. The delivery center will be closed, but I understand that I can do the pickup from Harms (for a small fee). I know I'll miss out on the tour and delivery center..but my dates are pretty fixed. I know many will tell me that I'm rushing (2 days each in Milan/Florance/Rome) --and I know they're right...but (per my wife) Rome is non negotiable. So I'm planning a ROme dropoff (ugh). Seems like the Munich-Milan trip is the longest--but the other legs are only a few hours. Inputs PLEASE!!!!!!

I did a munich-milan-rome-venice trip several weeks ago. None of your driving is too long 5 hours or so to milan and the rest of the itinerary is a piece of cake.
I would spend more time in Rome over Milan. IMO Milan doesn't have the history or site seeing sites that Rome does. We picked up and spent the night in munich, then 2 nights in milan, 3 nights in rome, 1 night in venice, dropped off munich and stayed the night and flew out the next day.
Milan has shopping (expensive as hell btw) for all your italian designers. Restaurants on the canal are very nice. Rome has a 1000 year old something or other around every corner, truely amazing!
Just my opinion)

I have no idea if you can do a pick up from Harms. I don't remember seeing anything about it before, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Is there something in particular in Milan you're wanting to see? If not, I would save for a future trip - there's so much to see in Florence and Rome.
Remember that Italy drop offs aren't shipped out of Italy. Harms will contract to have someone drive your car clear back to Munich to be shipped out. If having someone else drive your car is an issue, you might want to rethink the itinerary.
Good luck!

I spoke with the folks at BMW USA and they were the ones who suggested a pickup from Harms. I have emailed Herr Behrends and am awiting confirmation.
Also--many thanks for the comments on my itinerary!!! I had chosen Milan partially to break up my drive--but I like the idea of spending a bit more time driving around Tuscany and then getting to Florence.
Yes, am aware of the driving issue out of Italy. I might opt to drop the car in Florence and do the train to get to Rome.

I thought that you have to be at the center in person and with your passport to pick up the car.
From bmwusa.com:
"Upon arrival at the Delivery Center, you must present a passport and valid driver's license for identification. "
