To all potential non citizen EDers in SF bay area

Folks,

If you are on green card or visa in US and you want to do a ED. Think twice before
you buy a BMW and pick it up in Europe. The attitude of German consulate staff in San Francisco is not very pleasant (to put it mildly). I have been there before for visa
3 times and no problem (earlier there was a slightly older lady who was very nice).
The new staff sucks to say the least. And after having spent 40K, when you go there to get that attitude, your first feeling would be: Is a BMW worth taking that kind of attitude from consulate clerk. Why would you want to buy a car of a country whose consulate people here in SF do not know how to behave.

Anyways this is just my rant, rest is up to you. In anycase it does not apply to the blessed ones (with US visa) who do not have to face these idiots sitting behind a glass window in a consulate.

Happy car hunting.
JC.

The German Ausländerbehörde can be just as ridiculous with American or even EU citizens if they insufficiently match the expected patterns. Trust me.

Are you saying it's an issue doing an ED if you are a Green Card holder and not a US Citizen?

I guess it might be if you need a German visa. I have a Green Card but am a UK citizen, I had absolutely NO problems whatsoever.

The issue does not have to do whether or not you are a green card holder or doing ED but if you hold a passport from a country of which Germany requires a visa. Then you are forced to pay the local consulate a visit.

The German consulate here is Houston has a similar attitude, not very supportive in your attempts to get permission to visit their home country. Before you can talk to the consulate staff you are pre-screened by the american security guard. He tries to answer all your questions by telling you to go check the consulate's website. I had already set up my question by telling him that it was very specific question that was not answered on the website. It took 3 tries to get past him.

You should try visiting an American Embassy anywhere in the world.

And don't forget the $100USD processing fee.
