The ship my car is on docked earlier this week and i came to see the dealer about trade-in value. While there i talked to my ED guy and he said that VDC is backed up to capacity. There are ships which are sitting out on the watter which can't dock because there is no space to unload the cars. He said it will be at least 10 days before VDC has a chance to process my car. Anybody else hear something similar? The big question is - how can i find out what day exactly does my car leave VDC and is on the way to the dealer? Is there a number at VDC or BMWNA i can call?

Nice fish story with a blend of truth in it.
1) Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach is backed-up w/ ships anchoredout side of the harbor waiting to unload.
2) BMW, Volvo, Jag, Mazda, Kia, Hyundai to name a few all use PORT HUENEME to unload. There is NO back log in Hueneme.
3) This is the busy time for BMW VPC as the E90 is being brought in at record pace to meet the buyers demand. Yes they are a bit backed-up
4) Sold orders (cars ordered and a buyer waiting to pay for and take delivery) has highest priority. ED cars (cars sold delivered and paid for already) takes a back seat. BMW Employee orders has the last priority.
Believe me when I tell you that they are doing everything they can to crack the cars out of VPC. No one is sitting around and lolligaging. By the same token, there is nuthing you can do to make the process faster. Your dealer should have the report when the car is released from VPC and passed on to carrier.
Cheers,
beewang

oh i am not saying people at VPC are sitting around doing nothing. i am just trying to guestimate the time i'll get my baby. having dealer know when the car is released to carrier is no good since it will most likely get delivered the same day (truck takes about 6-7 hours i would guess from LA to SF?)

No... Released to carrier to SF is probably within12~ 72 hrs. You are making the assumption that the truck is sitting around waiting for your car to load and shot straight to your dealer. That is hardly the case.

the assumption i am making is that BMW of Mtn. View sells a LOT of cars (just like other BMW dealers in Silicon Valley) and all of the cars on the truck will be for BMW of Mtn. View - meaning the truck wont have to stop anywhere to unload/pickup and thus save tons of time. of course i could be wrong and in fact, i hope i am wrong and you right. this way i'll have dealer tell me when the car is released to the carrier and i'll approximate the arrival of the car better (gonna spend all day at the dealer so i can catch my car when it arrives)

How did that go? It seems like they would feel less pressure to give you decent trade in since you have already bought the ne car.
