LH 2 for 1 out of Koln... ICE

Just got-off phone w/ LH's BMW 2 for 1 deal. My game plan was to fly into Munich and fly out of FRA. Just out of curiosity, I ask for the potential of drop the car off at Koln and fly out of Koln/Bonn airport (where Pope Benedict landed today). Inga of LH asked me if I would like to fly out of Koln/Bonn Airport or take the ICE out of Koln to FRA I was half asleep at the time but that question ... Wow!! Now that would be exciting!! I've been on France TGV, Japan's Shikensen (bullettrain) as well as EuroStar (same as TGV but with no view). I must say that next to driving on max speed on autobahn, the speedtrain is my favorite thing form of entertainment

The ICE will take us straight from HBF Koln to FRA Airport terminal Platform. Good God!! you've gotta love the German efficiency.

So the news here. Lufthansa 2 for 1, also allows you to take the ICE train to make the flight connection. And BTW, the price is the same (actually a buck cheaper) than we fly out of FRA. Damn!! This is just... beautiful!!

I was looking at train reservations today. We fly into Frankfurt (ff on Continental, mmm first class) and I wanted to take the train to Munich to get the car. What is the difference between IC and ICE? Should I be sure to get on an ICE?

ICE is 300 km/h, IC is 200 km/h. The E is Express. There is also the ICE with Tilting Technology.

Yep the European rails are great. Just be sure that you set your watch 5 mins ahead, so you're not late... LOL

Too bad a lot of Americans have never experienced how a real railroad works.
