Hi everyone. I have to get a visa to enter Germany for my ED (I am not a citizen yet). The German embassy insists on Health Insurance that would cover at least $33,500.00 in writing(posted on their swbsite). My Insurance (BCBS) furnished me with a letter that said they would provide "unlimited benefits" overseas. This was not acceptable to the consular section today when I tried to apply for their visa. And they insisted that it had to be in writing for that mentioned amount. I therefore called BCBS and explained the situation, after the lady conferred with her supervisor she told me that this was illegal and that they cannot write any specific amounts as such. Has anyone been through such an experience and if so what was your solution. Please help. thanks in advance.

abolad,
There are companies that provide you with insurance for the Schengen states. As far as I remember correctly you need to prove $37,500 in coverage. Check out travelex.com and http://www.buyamericaninsurance.com. Try googling it.
It should run you arround $60/month. I have never used these services but a friend of mine did shop arround a while ago. This is what I remember.

I applied at the NYC consulate too. I simply provided them a copy of my BCBS insurance card. No questions.
