How do u guys follow the break in schedule when some of u are on the autobahn and driving very fast to get from one location to the other?
the 14 day auto insurance from the factory, what is their legal requirements as far as accidents, stolen vehicle, vandalism and so forth? In other words what are they legally liable to cover us for?
Have any of u who have traveled abroad experience any mechanical breakdowns or issues while u were driving in europe? and who would i contact if that were to come up?
I will order an xi, which means production in sept. and possible delivery in oct. If i place my order now when would they let me know the exact date I could pick up? thanks

Use the advanced search in the Euro Deliv forum for "insurance" and you'll get lots of info.
The "factory" insurance is provided by Gerling (German company) and is purchased by BMW at no charge to you. You can pay extra for more than 14 days and prices vary by model.
It is a VERY high quality insurance. Zero deductible. Everything's covered even if the car arrives at the US port with a bunch of scratches...it gets fixed for free no questions asked. If while in Europe you scrape a curb on your beautiful new rims...it will get fixed before redelivery....free. If you have a breakdown or accident there are provisions for towing, rental car reimbursement, even meals. It's a very comprehensive policy.
You will get all the phone numbers you need in case of breakdown or accidents. They'll give that to you in Munich.
The dealer should be able to give you a pickup date within a few days of placing your order. Go to this thread to see who else is getting the Xi :

Near the end of the last page will be a long list of everyone who has posted their ED date and model. Maybe they can give you more detailed answers on their Xi experience.
Almost everyone cheats on the breakin period (some a little...some more).

However FYI, they don't start production for ED Xi's until Oct. The earliest that you can pick-up in Munich is late late Oct or early Nov. I am down for Nov. 14 and I know someone else just ordered for delivery on Nov. 8.
Good luck!

the insureance does to seem to be pretty good. however it does not cover items left in the car, nor will it cover theft of the car if you cannot produce both keys.
