ED - take off in less than 2 weeks

I would like to thank everyone on the board and also Shabbaman for some great ED information. My pick up (530i) is in less than 2 weeks, can’t wait.

This is my first time in Europe and my itinerary:

oDay 1 - Pick up car, drive to Sindelfingen
oDay 2 – Baden-Baden, Freiburg's Cathedral to Triberg
oDay 3 - Rhine Falls, Zurich, Lucerene to Interlaken
oDay 4/5 – Stay in Interlaken, Mt Titlis, Jungfraubahnen to Geneva
oDay 6 – Geneva to Como
oDay 7 – Como to Venice
oDay 8 – Venice to Vienna
oDay 9/10 - Salsburg, Innsburg, Fussen
oDay 11 – Dingolfing tour
oDay 12/13 – Ansbach/Ulm via Romantic Road – drop off car
oDay 14 – fly back

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As you'll notice in other "how's my itinerary?" threads, the general suggestions by those that are experienced Europe travellers will suggest that you're cramming FAR to many places into your 13 days there. If your goal is to check a bunch of cities off of your "I wanna go there list" then it looks like you are on track. However, if you really want to even have a shot at experiencing any of what these cities have to offer, you'll be sorely dissappointed.

If you really want to give any of these cities a fair chance, I'd cut your proposed itinerary to maybe two or three big cities, staying 2 to 3 nights in each and mix in a few smaller cities or regions staying 1 to 2 nights in each. Or you could extend your stay to 4+ days at a given location and use it as base camp for exploring other areas in that region.

I guess it will really depend on your interests. The "hey look kids - Big Ben, Parliament!" tours don't give you a chance to appreciate the local flavor and ambiance of what that area has to offer.

Suggestion: trim the itinerary in HALF. You've got to be kidding. Have you seen the movie "if this is tuesday this must be belgium."

I thought it sounded fantastic (albeit ambitious) on first glance but after looking at my atlas I have to concur with the others.....this is just too much driving and not enough enjoying!

I'd cut out Geneva and Zurich....if you have to do the Swiss thing then do Lucern/Interlaken.

You need to spend more time in Vienna and then another day in Salzburg. Skip Innsbruck and Fussen. Day 12/13 should be....JUST MUNICH!! Don't underestimate the value of parking the car (or dropping it off a couple of days early) and enjoying Munich...it's one of the jewels of Germany.

Cut out more. Don't act like you'll never come back. Enjoy the time. Enjoy the cities. Don't make your trip a check list.

I agree with everybody. With the itinerary your are considering it surely woud be just be a driving trip and all you could say is that you slept in different cities. My trip was 14 days and covered Munich, Venice, Florence, Genoa, and Nice. After doing the trip I wish I could have spent a few more days on my trip.
