 Telepass

I am leaving tomorrow (Monday) for Munich and pick up on Wed. Has anyone bought or know if you can buy a Telepass in Europe? I looked at the website too late to get it sent to me in the US.

I got an email form a friend traveling accross the French broder and he said the cash lines were brutal.

Thanks for a very informative board. Nice effort and useful stuff.

B-your the man.

You can use "CB" = Carte Bleue = VISA/MC Credit Cartes at "Voies Automatiques", where are almost no lines. See i.e.

http://www.escota.fr/en/tarifs.php#

for the autoroute network at Cote d'Azur.

When you get a ticket at the entrance gate, you have to put in the ticket first, then your CC to pay.

Same procedure in Italy, there you can use your CC at the "Viacard" lines.

Welcome to Munich!

Hello,

regarding Italy I can tell you that probably using your credit card in the automatic gates with the sign "Viacard" is probably your best option.

Telepass works great but the problem is that the transponder you get is a rental from the Telepass company at 3,10 € a month charged on your CC and you have first to stop at one of theirs offices on the highways. These offices are called Punto Blu. To stop the service you have to stop at another "Punto blu" to give back the transponder.... I don't think it is practical unless you plan to drive a lot on highways in Italy... so simply use the CC in "Viacard" gates.

I hopew I've been useful.

Giuliano
