"U.S Custom Duty 2.71% of European Delivery Price", that's what it says on my Euro Delivery Purchase order I signed and put a deposit down. I thought custom duty tax was covered by bmw ag as part of the ed price. My dealer didn't know whether to charge me this amount or not and said he is going to find out. Is this just a generic line statement on the form itself or does it apply to me? Can somebody please shed some light on this? Did a search and couldn't find anything on custom duty tax. thanks

The duty, whatever it is, is the same for ED cars or regular US delivery cars and is paid by BMW and NOT the end customer. Your dealer is either an ignorant rookie or he's trying to pull a fast one on you.

Is this the blue & white ED Purchase Order form? Is it typed in by the dealer and if so where? Or is it pre-printed on the form and if so where?
My PO doesn't have this fee anywhere on it....front or back.

it is on a black and white form because he didn't want to make a mistake while typing it up in the blue and white form. It is preprinted in the description box right above subtotal, insurance charge, and total line. I would definitely tell him other wise if it shows up when he sends the form into germany.

Did your dealer grab an old worksheet form that was used some years ago when the customer explicitly paid the duty? The duty on mine from 1996 was 2.71%. I believe the current rate to import a car into the U.S. is 2.5%.

Here is a copy of my PO without page 1 or 4 which have my info typed in, page 1 is basically just the car info and my passport info and insurance info, page 4 is my passport info and power of attorney for getting the ED plates etc. It does mention the tax in the return shipment of vehicle portion but does not list the rate... this was also never mentioned during negotiations but I think it is the standard tax all cars have applied to them and is included in the purchase price of the car. On my sales sheet this was not even listed in the total cost of the car including state taxes. I am not concerned about this because the final cost has been agreed upon including taxes fees. Should I be concerned ?
