Itinerary Help
Just received ED package from BMW for 530xi for 8/24/05 pickup - arrive in Munich 8/23 AM. Thought I had a plan to spend a couple days in Munich, then head to Rothenberg, then to Hallstatt, Austria. This thought as a result of reading Rick Steves book. I then buy a Michelin map and have found that perhaps this is too much traveling for our time there - we leave 8/30/05. So, I am quite confused and need help. As background, there will be 4 of us - including 12 and 15 year olds. We want to see castles, countryside, beer gardens, small towns - including Rothenburg and/or Dinkelsbuhl, Rhine. Loved the pics of Hallstatt, but maybe too far, and would consider other ideas?? We also fly back via Munich at 11:30, which leads to another question - when should I drop the car off?? Is the morning of departure too ambitious?? Have never flown from Europe, so don't know how early one needs to arrive at airport, and/or time distance to airport from Harms. Also, any thoughts on the Kings Hotel mentioned in the ED package? Kind thanks for any and all thoughts/suggestions!

If you drop off at 8:00 am, you should be on your way to the airport by 8:30. Its about a 20 minute cab ride.
| | Reply » Itinerary Help | Sorry, meant Hallstatt.
| | Reply » Itinerary Help | It looks like Hallstatt is just east of Salzburg. This is really not that far from Munich. One thing many people that do ED realize is how close everything is to Munich.....your itinerary sounds very reasonable to me.
Since you have the kids with you I would highly recommend Mike's Bike Tours of Munich. http://www.mikesbiketours.com/index_munich.html
It's a great way to see the city (it's an easy ride) and includes about a one hour stop in a beer garden in the Englischer Garden....one of the most beautiful urban parks I've ever seen.
| | Reply » Itinerary Help | I will be doing my first ED from 8/29-9/6, I can't wait... I plan on hitting Hallstatt on the way back toward Munich by taking the Grossglockner pass road, not far from there at all and a definate must if in the area, highest peak in Austria and one of the highest roads in Europe. Amazing from what I have read from others and in books!! Website translated via google: http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools website: http://www.grossglockner.com/ Everything seems farther than it really is... km not miles! Best of Luck!!

Suggest limiting to two nights in Munich and then off.
