Guys,
I am taking the ED in Sep. I am wondering if you had any driving experience in these cities: Munich, Vienna and Amsterdam? o How's the traffic there? o Am I going to find a parking spot easily? o Should I just park the car in the hotel and take the public transportation?
Also, I am going to drop-off the car in Amsterdam and take a morning flight to London. Do you know o When does the Amsterdam's drop-off location open? o How long does it take to finish the drop-off paper work? o And how long do I need to get to the Amsterdam airport?
Thanks in advance for your advise. -Yukon

Hmmmm try the search function, but from apparently the Amsterdam drop-off is right at the airport in a business park, so ultra-convenient.

Finding a parking spot will be as tough as any other large city. Also, with respect to Vienna and Munich, I have been told that non-natives find some of the streets confusing (we have many one-way streets for example) and also the same street will change names one or more times over a length of several km.
Conventional wisdom - as discussed quite a bit on this board - is to use public transportation and rely on the BMW for trips ,,aufs Land".
If you have any specific questions about excursions in this area, feel free to post your enquiry.

As Jonathan said, it is easier to park the car (parking garage or hotel) and use public transportation to see the things you want to see. Traffic is like any densely populated metro area. Driving in those places (IMHO) is like or or and afterwards I need and !! And in central Amsterdam half the distance between the buildings is usually occupied by water! The public transport is so precise and easy! Heck, riding the U-bahn in Munich or the streetcars in Vienna is part of the experience! Greg

Even when I'm in Chicago, once the car is parked, it stays park and I use public transportation. Usually, I don't even drive to downtown unless its not a busy time, as the train ends up being faster, cheaper (when considering $20+ dollar parking), and less stressful..
