Picking my ED on Aug 1st. I have been to Europe plenty of times, but have never had to deal with driving/parking then. Wondering if anyone could advise on how to figure out the parking signs in Europe (if they exist) - does one park anyplace where cars are parked. Places I am visiting are:
Munich (don't need parking there - heading right to Salzburg from there) Salzburg Zurich Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen Valley Berne/Lasaunne/Geneva Black Forest area Paris
Tips on Salzburg parking and Switzerland parking signs would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!

Salzburg (old part of town) parking was difficult; there was a huge underground parking garage that was expensive, but easy to find. From there, our hotel was able to provide free on-street parking that was valid from 6pm to 7am during weekdays, and free on the weekends. Without hotel-provided garage or street parking, it'll be difficult and/or expensive to park in that part of town.
If you're staying in the newer parts of town, parking will be just as it is in any other city.

just park on the sidewalk. they wont tow your car - in italy everybody thought i was a diplomat. plus, last thing a towing company needs is to damage a new bmw.

Thanks in advance!! | In salzburg and zurich (and prob. others), I would call your hotel well in advance to reserve a parking space. Park there and walk. Salzburg is sufficiently small you'll walk everywhere (or take a bus/trolley). Zurich is bigger, but, again, you won't drive around town. Just don't. Trust me. Take a train or a cab.
For Paris, I'm guessing that's last. I would drop the car at the drop point and not worry about parking at all. Again, le metro and taxis.
BTW, here's what aparking sign in Europe looks like. Not too hard to figure out!

Zurich has a ton of underground public parking lots, definitely no problem there. Can't speak to the other places.
