Tim | You can't take ED for any BMW (or even option for that matter) not offered in the United States.

So now the conundrum..... move to Europe, enjoy autos of choice, or stay in states with family and friends and drive the autos THEY want us to drive.
I thought this was the free country.

The 2003 Ford E-350 loves the stuff, no probs at all. The 2000 Dodge cummins PU runs better on it. The winnebago motorhome has a GM diesel from the 80s and runs great on it. I did have a little trouble with an old GM suburban, the filters became clogged after the first tank of B-20, must likely due to sediment set free by the new fuel.
I have a friend with a 2001 VW beetle and runs it with no problems. But he only runs it every other tank because of cost. He is REALLY cheep, I mean after all, he drives a bug and it gets 40MPG.
I have heard that if you use the B-50 or pure biodiesel, problems can arise. I would stay away from that stuff.

I'm really curious as to possibly trying to import or convert a project car. I don't know how the DMV is in Oregon but in CA even if I got a diesel BMW to the states they would make it impossible to register with a CA plate. You should look into that aspect of it, since even if BMW wont bring it over, you could have it shipped independently, but id be treated as a homebuilt/special purpose car and in CA it means the engine has to be identical to one in a production vehicle, and also have all the features it had in the production car.
