My beautiful European vacation ended when my car arrived on Friday. My brand new 2006 BMW 750Li arrived with 3 knife like scratches on the top part of the front bumper, the dealer told me that he would bring a touchup person who would make it disappear (all done over the phone before I had a chance to see the car) I trusted the salesman as I have known him for 12 years, and I told him to go ahead to fix it as long as the bumper will not be painted..... Saturday morning I come to look at my car and find it completely wrapped with nylon and the bumper was being worked on, the guy told me that he would apply paint to a very small part, just around the scratches (which I could not see due to the bondo he applied) I went home and waited and nobody called so I called and the sales person told me that there is a 2 hour delay. At 6 P.M he calls me and tells me that they had to do it twice and that it looks bad.... I got on my loaner car and drove the 32 miles to the dealership to look and I saw my brand new dream machine looking like a 67 Chevy that had a cheap paint job in Tijuana.... I flipped and the sales person told me that on Monday they will bring it to the body shop and do it right.
I told him that I want a new bumper, not one that "looks like new" but apparently they paint new bumpers too.... what bothers me is that if they paint the entire bumper it will not be as good as new and if I had a small encounter with another bumper it would peel off and that I could not use compound to remove a small layer of paint to make it go away.
Does anyone here know what my options are? As far as I am concerned they can keep this car and give me a new one or cancel the deal, but they will not do that.
I took off the German plate off the car which I meant to keep as a souvenir and left the car at the dealership, when I got home I threw the plate in the trash as it no longer represents a good memory which I want to post on my shelf.
2nd question would be does anyone here know if a body shop has the capability to paint plastic with the same quality as in the factory? I had a 98 750iL that was painted and the paint was so thin that any nick made it peel off and forget using compound..... In my opinion only the factory has the right tools to make the correct layers and correct bonding procedure.
Any advice?

Take it to Spectrum Collision in Irvine
They are one of the few BMW certified body shop and the ONLY one in Cal. Go there and you will be impressed.
http://www.spectrumcollision.com/index.htm
I would call Gerling Insurance and make a claim and take it to Spectrum directly. If you are not happy w/ Spectrum's work, you will never be happy in this lifetime.
They are not cheap, but you aint paying for it so don't worry about it.
You can thank me later

Please check you PM box.

Any advice? | As long as the damage was limited to the plastic bumper cover, and no sheet metal was involved, any competent shop will be able to an excellent job. The car will be good as new, and the only person who will know is you. I don't think you should let this one incident ruin your memory of a great vacation, or ruin your ownership experience of a truly fantastic car.

The VPC repairs all damage prior to trucking the car to the dealer. If you cannot get a satisfactory answer, call ED at BMW NA.
Regarding a repair, if a certified shop paints a new bumper, it should be fine.

I told the dealer the exact same thing and he told me that the PDC processes European Delivery cars without looking very well as the customers often create the damage.... I think he is wrong and I also know that HARMS in Germany inspected the car with me and I have photographs of my car with the HARMS sign in the background and my intact car where the bumper can be zoomed on (digital camera) to prove that I brought it intact. So I think that if this arrived to court the judge would make them fix it. I feel bad here because my sales person is also my friend and I know he is doing everything he can for me. I will call him on Monday and request to send the car to Spectrum as Beewanf suggested

Whether you brought it to Harms in tip top shape, or gashes, doesn't matter.
By the way, PDC is Parking Distance Control. I believe you mean VPC.
