 Time is Tight

I want to do ED and because I'm starting a new job, I won't have any vacation for quite a while. So I'd like to go when there is a holiday when my company is closed. So here is what I propose. Since my BMWCCA membership is 1 year old as of Jan 13th I'm thinking of doing this trip to coincide with ML King day Jan 16th.

Leave Newark NJ Sat night arrive Munich laste Sunday morning.
Got to hotel check in.
See local sites on Sunday and get a good meal and beer
Monday AM pick up car at Delivery center.
Immediately drop it off in Harms
Take taxi from Harms to airport (recommended by bimmerfest)
The latest flight (as of now anyway) is 3:00 on Monday.

Is this too agressive a schedule?

I'd like to do vacation in Germany and Switzerland but my wife is a teacher and isn't as flexible as I will be once I am entitled to vacation. So it looks like our vacation will have to wait. Plus, even if I were vacationing as part of the ED I think I'd still drop off the car and travel using public transportation. We've had really good success with public transport in UK, Netherlands and Belgium in the past.

Any comments/advice is much appreciated.

I hear it can be real cold in Germany in January
And I think I understand the procedure/timeline from all the great posts here on Bimmerfest.

Yes, Munich will be cold in January. And the days are short. You might luck on one of those rare January days when the air clears and you can see the Alps from the top of Alte Peter. Don't count on it - most likely cold, perhaps snowing, perhaps slushy snow on the roads.

Your itinerary reminds me of some business trips I've done. They got the mission accomplished, but they were not a lot of fun. Your itinerary is doable, especially if you get to the pick-up when they open and have notified both the pick-up and drop-off folks you are on tight schedule.

It's a shame that you can't spend more time - even in the winter, Munich and Bavaria is a magical place. Would you have enough vaaction time from your job to do this over the school spring break - extend it to a week + weekends. perhaps?? Munich in March is still a bit brisk and there will be snow in the mountain towns, but not nearly so cold and dark as January.

I guarantee when you are flying back to the states you will wish you could have spent more time in Germany.

Can't you arrive 2 days sooner and enjoy Munich? 2-3 days in that city are fantastic...even if the weather is bad. Use the subways and go see the sights.

I got the Munich Marriott for only $60/night using Priceline and it's very close to the subway (UBahn)....it was perfect for getting around. You can easily extend the trip for 2 more days for $250.

But your proposed itinerary looks very do-able for a 3pm flight back home.

You might try negotiating with you boss...Work an extra Saturday or two in exchange for some time off for ED.
Barring that , would it be possible to leave late Friday in stead of Sat ? That would at least give you an extra day in Munich.

Thanks for the input. Several people suggested an extra day.
Which would be better --
leave Friday night and arrive Sat and have Sat afternoon/eve and all day Sunday to relax or to still leave Sat night but come back on Tuesday so that I'd have 1/2 day Sunday and 1/2 day Monday to relax and site see and be less stressful?
If I decide to come back Tuesday, which would be better (after picking up Mon morning)
drop off right away (Monday) or drop-off Tuesday AM first thing?

I'm getting excited thinking about this and planning the trip
thanks.

Maybe silly questions.....
Do the folks at Harms speak English?
Can I call them a couple of days ahead to arrange drop off even before I pick up the car?
