 Crazy to travel in July without hotel res??



Gusy. Am I crazy to tavel in July wihtout hotel reservations? Cant seem to pin down the itenerary... Going for 6 days and only have the first night in Munich reserved. Any feedback is appreciated.

Not necessarily. If there is a particular place you wanted to visit that may be popular at this time of year such as Bodensee (aka Lake Constance), then I would at least call/email a few hotels to get a general idea of availability. There are so many little hotels/inns/gasthauses in Germany/Austria/Switzerland that you shouldn't have any issues with finding rooms.

However, you may want to do a little research on your possible destinations to determine if there are any large events going on nearby. As an exapmle, I had a friend of mine get very upset when he had difficulty finding a hotel room at the last minute for a late September business trip to Munich. Once I clued him in that Oktoberfest was actually in late September (most people think it is in mid October), he seemed to take it all in stride... not to mention had a great time on his "business" trip.

Generally, I'll book the first night and last night of my trip and leave everything in the middle open.
