My dealer is adding $550 for "Advertising and Training" fees to my invoice, for an ED 545. My understanding from reading this forum is that Advertising and Training isn't charged for ED. The only different thing in my case is that my dealer is selling me an ED car out of his allotment, so I can get the car in a month instead of waiting the usual 3 months plus for ED. So, I'm not sure if perhaps the Advertising and Training fee is normal, given that the ED car is coming out of allotment.
Does anyone know the answer to this?
Thanks.

There is no excuse for him to ask for those costs over and above the price of the car. That is not normal and you should not be expected to 'bite' on that one. I would find another dealer, or tell him you contacted BMWNA and that they never heard of that before.

- Dave | I wouldn't pay it even on a non-ED car. It's just a euphemism for profit. So if you're fine paying $550 more over invoice to get the car, it's fine. I didn't even pay their $40 document fee. It's all bogus stuff trying to legitimize more profit. You mean I have to pay them to fill out the paperwork to sell me the car? Are you kidding me!

So this is money kept by the dealer? I thought it was money that went to BMWNA, or the local dealer's association, or something - and that dealers were assessed the money based on the numbers of cars they were sold.

- Dave | I'd send a letter to BMW AG, BMW NA, the Better Business Bureau, your states Attorney General, any car magazine you subscribe to and include the name of the dealer prominently. And go buy your BMW somewhere else.
